Music from Mazandaran The folkloric music of this region holds some special kind of melancholy such as the heart-rending voices of this region do. The specific instruments from Mazandaran are: Lalewa (flute), Kamancheh (lap –fiddle) and Dotar (with only 2 Strings). The ancient Songs of Mazandaran such as: Katuli, Amiri, Hala- i present the character of this music with its heights and depths in the pitch level.

Persian music usually starts with a rhythmic introduction called pishadaramad and is followed by an arhythmical piece called daramad. It continues with a more rhythmic piece entitled chaharmezrab. Persian classic music is based on the rules of the traditional  repertoire or radif, which is composed of various modal systems.

Songs of exile, one of the favorite themes of Persian poetry in general, also enjoy great popularity in this region. These heartfelt melodies speak not only of physical exile, but of the exile of the soul. These songs are often accompanied by a plaintive cry, called "Haray" or "Faryad", the cry or echo of the mountains.
